Do you depend on your vehicle on a daily basis? If so, it is important to ensure you have selected the car hire benefit on your policy.
Should your vehicle be involved in an accident, get stolen or hijacked it could be weeks before you are back in the driver’s seat. Having a hired vehicle will take the pressure off trying to find alternative transportation.
Your insurer will provide you with a hired vehicle only if your vehicle is:
- Accident Damaged and not driveable
- Stolen or hijacked
- Damaged and being repaired following accident damage
It is important to note the type of hired vehicle you will require as the insurer will only provide you with the vehicle hire group selected on the policy i.e. manual, automatic, sedan, LDV, SUV, D/C, S/C, panel van.
The hired vehicle will only be available for the maximum period (30 or 60 days) that you have selected, or until the repairs have been completed or until the insurer has finalized your claim.
Due to the ripple effects in the economy, we are finding that more frequently parts for vehicles are being placed on back order for extended periods and this is causing delays in the commencement of repairs and vehicle hire (mainly 30 days) is expiring before the repairs have been completed.
Should you already have 30 days vehicle hire selected on your vehicle/s, we highly recommend increasing the days from 30 to 60, subject to insurer availability, in an attempt to avoid any issues at claim stage.
